Spay & Neuter For A Better Future

Our Mission

SUN P.E.T.S. (Prevent Excess Through Sterilization) is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing the dog and cat overpopulation problem in Snyder, Union, and Northumberland (S-U-N) counties. We also work to educate the public on responsible pet ownership and other related topics.

Petsmart TNR Grant for Lower Northumberland County Received

SUN P.E.T.S. is the recipient of a $15,000 grant from Petsmart Charities to be utilized in the Coal Region towns in southern Northumberland County for spaying/neutering and providing rabies vaccinations to outside, community, feral, free-roaming cats.

This grant is to be utilized by volunteers who trap-neuter-return (TNR) outside cats in their neighborhoods or rural property to reduce the number of homeless cats in the towns of Shamokin, Coal Township, Uniontown, Ranshaw, Kulpmont, Mt. Carmel, Marion Heights, Natalie, Elysburg and the smaller villages in the Coal Region Area (a total of 17 zip code areas).

Spay/Neuter Bus 2018

SUN P.E.T.S. will be hosting the Allegheny Spay and Neuter Clinic Bus on April 26, May 21, June 18, and July 23.

This low cost spay and neuter service is open to all male and female dog breeds as well as male cats. You must also be a resident of Snyder, Union, or Northumberland counties.

First Community Foundation Partnership Grant Received

We would like to thank the First Community Foundation Partnership for recently giving us a grant of $1,000.

With the grant we were able to spay 14 female cats and 7 female dogs, thus preventing hundreds of unwanted kittens and dozens of unwanted puppies over the lifespan of each animal.

We truly appreciate the support we receive from individual grant organizations and our local communities. Without them, it would be difficult to continue our mission of spaying or neutering as many as animals as we can in our three county area.

Milestone Reached - 20,000 Animals Sterilized!

We have reached a historic milestone with our low-cost spay/neuter program for pets of low-income individuals and families in Snyder, Union, and Northumberland counties. Through the work of volunteers, monetary donations from the public, regional grants, and the reduced cost services of local veterinarians, the 20,000th animal has been sterilized through our program.

Honoring A Friend: The Dr. Murphy's "Spay A Stray" Fund

Dr. Matthew Murphy of Keystone Mobile Veterinary Services was the first veterinarian to collaborate with SUN P.E.T.S. to provide mobile spay, neuter, and vaccination clinics in our area on a routine schedule. Over the past two years, his day-long clinics, scheduled by SUN P.E.T.S. every other month provided low-cost services to scores of companion and free-roaming cats in the Susquehanna Valley.
